Manual and Computerised Payroll Training

Course Title: Manual and Computerised Payroll (B20138)

Awarding Body: The Further Education and Training Council (FETAC).
The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) was established on 11 June 2001 under the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act, 1999. It is the single national awarding body for the further education and training sector in Ireland and is now responsible for making awards that were previously made by CERT (Now Failte Ireland), FAS, the National Council for Vocational Awards (NCVA) and Teagasc. FETAC make awards to learners on a vast range of programmes offered by providers of many different types.

Intended Audience:
Students represent a wide range of backgrounds; from school-leavers to those already working but seeking a formal qualification. The course enables learners to develop a broad range of payroll skills, which are vocational specific and require a general theoretical understanding. They are enabled to work independently/subject to general direction. The majority of certificate/module holders take up positions of employment.

Entry Requirements:
National Vocational Certificate Level 1, Leaving Certificate, or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.

Exemptions:
Students who have achieved FETAC records of achievements in individual modules may be granted exemptions from certain subjects on the basis of prior achievements.

Course Details
Learners who successfully completed this module will;
Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to use both manual and computerised payroll systems.
Understand the essential and appropriate terminology associated with personal taxation.
Appreciate the importance of accuracy and security in preparing and maintaining payroll records. Acquire the knowledge and understanding of how the cumulative, emergency and temporary tax systems operate.

The specific learning outcomes are grouped into 3 units; Manual Payroll, Computer Principles and Computer Payroll.

Registration: Courses are run regularly throughout the year including mornings, afternoons and
evenings. Places are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Duration: 35 hours self-paced. Deliver as flexible learning module.

Assessment: Project 50%. Examination 50%. Results available six weeks after assessment.

Further Study: Successful candidates will gain a FETAC record of achievement which will entail them to exemptions from some additional FETAC courses.
