Manual and Computerised Book Keeping
Course Title: Manual and Computerised Book-Keeping (B20137)Awarding Body: The Further Education and Training Council (FETAC).
The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) was established on 11 June 2001 under the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act, 1999. It is the single national awarding body for the further education and training sector in Ireland and is now responsible for making awards that were previously made by CERT (Now Failte Ireland), FAS, the National Council for Vocational Awards (NCVA) and Teagasc. FETAC make awards to learners on a vast range of programmes offered by providers of many different types.
Intended Audience: Students represent a wide range of backgrounds; from school-leavers to those already working but seeking a formal qualification. The course enables learners to develop a broad range of book-keeping skills, which are vocational specific and require a general theoretical
understanding. They are enabled to work independently/subject to general direction. The majority of certificate/module holders take up positions of employment.
Entry Requirements: National Vocational Certificate Level 1, Leaving Certificate, or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.
Exemptions: Students who have achieved FETAC records of achievements in individual modules may be granted exemptions from certain subjects on the basis of prior achievements.
Course Details:
Learners who successfully completed this module will;
Acquire an understanding of basic book-keeping concepts and terminology.
Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to record transactions in an manual accounts system and draw up a trial balance.
Understand the main components of a computer system and acquire the skills to carry out various housekeeping tasks.
Appreciate the advantages of computerised accounts and be aware of the various accounting packages available.
Acquire the importance of data accuracy and confidentiality in financial transactions.
The specific learning outcomes are grouped into 3 units; Manual Book-Keeping, Computer Principles and Computerised Book-Keeping using Sage Line 50.
Registration: Courses are run regularly throughout the year including mornings, afternoons
and evenings. Places are allocated on a first come first serve basis.
Duration: 10 weeks part-time of three hours session per week.
Assessment: Project 50%. Examination 50%. Results available six weeks after assessment.

Further Study: Successful candidates will gain a FETAC record of achievement which will entail them to exemptions from some additional FETAC courses. .
