Manual and Computerised Book Keeping
Course Title: Manual and Computerised Book-KeepingAwarding Body: The Further Education and Training Council (FETAC).
The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the single national awarding body for the further education and training sector in Ireland and is now responsible for making awards that were previously made by CERT (Now Failte Ireland), FAS, the National Council for Vocational Awards (NCVA) and Teagasc. FETAC make awards to learners on a vast range of programmes offered by providers of many different types.
Intended Audience: Students represent a wide range of backgrounds; from school-leavers to those already working but seeking a formal qualification. The course enables learners to develop a broad range of book-keeping skills, which are vocational specific and require a general theoretical understanding. They are enabled to work independently/subject to general direction. The majority of certificate/module holders take up positions of employment. We offer two different courses in this area, at levels 5 and 6 which are both FETAC accredited.
Entry Requirements: National Vocational Certificate Level 1, Leaving Certificate, or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.
Exemptions: None.
Course Details: Level 5
Learners who successfully completed this module will;
- Acquire an understanding of basic book-keeping concepts and terminology.
- Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to record transactions in a manual accounts system and draw up a trial balance.
- Understand the main components of a computer system and acquire the skills to carry out various housekeeping tasks.
- Appreciate the advantages of computerised accounts and be aware of the various accounting packages available.
- Acquire the importance of data accuracy and confidentiality in financial transactions.
The specific learning outcomes are grouped into 3 units;
- Manual Book-Keeping
- Computer Principles
- Computerised Book-Keeping using Sage Line 50.
Course Details - Level 6
Learners who successfully completed this module will;
· Acquire the necessary skills and knowledge of bookkeeping principles which apply to manual and computerised systems
· Be enabled to detect and amend errors in the record keeping processes
· Be able to complete a bank and control account reconciliations from given data
· Demonstrate how to record adjustments, accruals and prepayments and depreciation
· Analyse financial data from a selection of reports
The specific learning outcomes are grouped into 4 units.
· Unit 1 Bookkeeping Entries and Principles
· Unit 2 Correction of Errors and Editing
· Unit 3 Provisions and Reconciliation
· Unit 4 Report Interpretation and Analysis
Registration: Courses are run regularly throughout the year including mornings, afternoons and evenings. Places are allocated on a first come first serve basis.
Duration: 10 weeks part-time of three hours session per week.
Assessment:
Assignment 50%, Exam 50% - Level 5.
Assignment 30%, Project 70% - Level 6.
Further Study: Successful candidates will gain a FETAC record of achievement which will entail them to exemptions from some additional FETAC courses.
